Exploring the Intersection of Environmental Justice, Black Feminist Theory, and Beloved Community
As a lawyer, former Climate Investments National Director at Dream.Org, and an expert in environmental law, climate investments, finance, and emerging technologies, I am at the forefront of driving transformative change. My work goes beyond technical expertise, embodying the principles of intersectionality, equity, social justice, environmental justice, and the concept of a beloved community. As an Afro-futurist, I focus on uplifting the global Black and Brown majority, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences are centered in the climate discourse.
In my academic research, I examine AI-driven microgrids in public schools through an energy justice lens, prioritizing equity for historically marginalized communities. Energy justice seeks to rectify the unequal distribution of energy resources and the disproportionate environmental burdens borne by vulnerable populations. Public schools, especially those in underserved areas, often struggle with high energy costs and unreliable access, exacerbating systemic inequities. By implementing AI-driven microgrids, these schools can not only lower their energy expenses but also become catalysts for community empowerment and resilience.
Through my work, I aim to bridge the gap between emerging technologies and the lived realities of marginalized communities, advocating for energy solutions that are both sustainable and just. AI and microgrid technologies have the potential to create energy systems that uplift communities, ensuring that schools in low-income neighborhoods benefit from renewable energy sources while building resilience to climate risks.
Leveraging my expertise in climate investments and transformative projects, I explore pathways for equitable energy solutions that generate financial savings for schools and create revenue opportunities that can be reinvested in the community. This vision of energy justice aligns with the broader concept of a beloved community—where everyone has access to the benefits of technological advancements and where sustainability, equity, and justice are embedded within the fabric of public education and energy systems.
As an African American and Yoruba woman, I am passionate about utilizing my platform to address the pressing issues of climate finance and investments, with a specific focus on the global majority of Black and Brown people. My blog serves as a space where I aim to foster inclusive discussions and promote equitable solutions for communities that have historically been marginalized in these conversations.
At the forefront of my blog, equity and social justice take center stage. I delve into the intricate connections between climate change, finance, and the disproportionate impacts experienced by communities of color. By shedding light on these disparities, I strive to raise awareness and mobilize action towards meaningful change.
Through insightful articles, analysis, and interviews, I provide a comprehensive understanding of climate finance and investments that resonate with the experiences and challenges faced by the global majority of Black and Brown people. I explore innovative approaches and sustainable solutions that prioritize justice, community empowerment, and economic inclusion.
By amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities, I aim to reshape the narrative and influence policy discussions to ensure that equity and social justice remain core principles in climate finance and investments. By highlighting success stories, sharing resources, and fostering dialogue, my blog serves as a catalyst for collective action, empowering individuals and communities to actively participate in shaping a more sustainable and just future.
Together, we can challenge existing systems, promote transformative change, and pave the way for a world where climate finance and investments uplift and empower all.

Dear Beloved Community,
Welcome to our shared journey, where Afrofuturism and Black Feminist thought intertwine to illuminate pathways toward a world of sustainability, justice, and empowerment. With every word penned and every idea shared, my heart beats with the rhythm of our collective resilience and vision for a better tomorrow.
In the depths of my commitment to climate justice and environmental equity, I see your faces and hear your voices—guiding lights that inspire me to delve deeper. Through our narratives, we illuminate the disproportionate impacts of climate change on our Black and Brown siblings. Together, we strive to reshape policy landscapes and decision-making processes, ensuring that fairness and inclusion prevail.
Black Feminist thought is our guiding star, illuminating the path toward inclusive, equitable communities. It reminds us that within the concept of beloved community lies the power to challenge and transform. Through its lens, we amplify the stories of marginalized communities, celebrating their resilience and advocating for their rightful place at the forefront of environmental discourse.
Within the realms of Afrofuturism, we find hope and innovation. Here, we explore the potential of emerging technologies and financial mechanisms to build sustainable futures that benefit us all. Our journey is not merely about progress but about ensuring that every stride forward fosters economic empowerment and community resilience, lifting up those who have been marginalized for far too long.
Through tales of community empowerment and social justice initiatives, we weave a tapestry of collective action and solidarity. Each initiative shared is a testament to our shared commitment to promoting justice and economic inclusion. Together, we sow seeds of hope and possibility, nurturing a future where every voice is heard and every community thrives.
Beloved community, join me on this transformative journey as we paint a vision of a world where Afrofuturism and Black Feminist thought reign supreme. Let us champion policies and initiatives that embody our values, paving the way for a future where sustainability, justice, and empowerment are not just aspirations but everyday realities.
Thank you for being part of this sacred conversation and for lighting the way forward with your courage and wisdom.
With boundless love and gratitude,
Jacquelyn
My consulting firm specializes in crafting equitable environmental policies and communications strategies. We blend expertise in environmental justice with powerful storytelling to advocate for inclusive and sustainable solutions.
Navigating the intersection of artificial intelligence, energy, and equity and justice is not just about technological progress—it’s about building what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned as the "Beloved Community." This vision, rooted in inclusivity, justice, and shared prosperity, guides my work in ensuring that the benefits of AI and the clean energy transition reach those who have historically been excluded.
Artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionize the energy sector, making it more efficient, resilient, and sustainable. However, without a foundation of equity and justice, this transformation risks deepening the existing divides. The energy transition must prioritize the global Black and Brown majority, communities that have borne the brunt of environmental degradation yet often find themselves on the margins of technological advancements. For me, AI is more than just a tool for innovation—it’s a way to realize the Beloved Community by democratizing access to clean energy, empowering marginalized voices, and dismantling systems of inequity.
At this intersection, I work to ensure that AI is ethically developed and deployed in ways that prioritize justice. This means advocating for transparent data practices, addressing algorithmic biases, and designing energy systems that are not only technologically advanced but also socially just. By aligning AI's capabilities with the principles of equity, we can create energy systems that uplift everyone—especially those who have been historically underserved.
My mission is clear: to help build a future where the synergy of AI and energy serves the common good, rooted in the values of the Beloved Community. This is a future where justice is not an afterthought, but a driving force in shaping the technologies and energy systems that power our world.
